it's probably not always on. It's probably like steam which requires it to be activated.

yeah, but in PC you dont need to activate with steam or be online, as long as you have the disk.  But in this case in order to play a game it needs to be installed, and in order to do that in needs to be registed with your account, so if you dont have internet to register the game, you cant play.

That's actually an issue with steamworks games (A lot of Disk copies come with a code you must activate on steam in order to play). You have to register it once online, then you can play offline and install it on infinity computers and play those offline too. But you must register online with some games. Any game that requires steamworks, which is basically SE Games, 2K games, Bethesda Games. Ubisoft Games Require Uplay, as and EA games require Origin. (Both with requirements like steam even for disk copies).

I do think this hurts the value of games, as I don't buy games at 50 dollars on PC unless I'm really excited. But games on PC seem to drop a bit faster and lower and unless you're an annoying company are 10 dollars cheaper than console games, but then you can't resell. With console games I buy games at 60 dollars a bit more liberally, because I can resell it for 50 dollars on ebay if its a piece of crap.

That's what my guess for this model to be based on. Blame PC Games :P.
