Selling sub-130k after an $80 price drop, 3 major Mario games, Zelda: OoT 3D, Kid Icarus, Kingdom Hearts, Epic Mickey, Lego City, Resident Evil (x2), Monster Hunter Tri, Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem, Paper Mario, etc. etc. not to mention a new model revision.

Handheld has just reduced in popularity and is now resereved mainly for the core gamer. ALthough in the last 2/3 weeks I think the 3DS has finally passed the threshold where people look at its library and go "yeah, theres enough to entertain me". We've seen it sell 40-50k consistently.

Nothings wrong with nintendo's main teams still being in Japan, mario kart, smash  bros, 3d mario and zelda  all appeal to the average western gamer anyway. Having a fee more european/NA teams would definitely help though and be a worth while investment. As a whole the problem with the Wii U is that lacked games, which will soon change. But also people were cautious that it would lack next gen 3rd part support because of its power. As a result I think very few have interest in it, but once nintendo strongest IPs are out and teh system is cheap, I think many harcore gamers will pick up a wii U as a secondary console. This winter it will do very well with parents purchasing games for young kids (Mario Kart, Windwaker HD, Luigi, Kirby and mario+sonic at the olympics).

Actually the 3DS has sold more in its first 1 month then the first 1 month sales of the DS & first 1 month sales of the GameBoy Advance.

And same goes for first 3 months comparison.

And first 6 months

First 12 months

18 months

24 months

You get the idea.

And the 3DS has 1 less holiday in the same point of life spam. Well it's half a holiday less then the DS had during the same point of life spam.

Are we talking worldwide or Just north america? Japan has been compensating lower sales in the western regions. Also I think the  worthwhile comparison isn't chronologically in terms of years from launch, but more based on the DS once it developed a strong software line up and was re-released. Both of which have happened for the 3DS, so the assumption is that it should peak sooner.

Maybe pokemon will allow it near the DS's sales, or maybe the market just doesn't allow for that anymore.
