I think you open the logo up in a photo manipulation software like gimp (a open source software), and use the paint tool you can turn the white background into a transparency and use layers. (Not that great at it either, usually leave that stuff to my sister who has artistic talent and patience.)

I will try, have dl gimp for this computer first.
