I think we all know all hardware (Vita included) will see a uniform rise from April to May, but that's really no big deal.

That doesn't quantify as "momenteum".

The 3DS hasn't put up impressive numbers from Jan-April despite a strong lineup of releases this year in North America. Even it's holiday numbers last year were kinda soft (down year over year yet again).

The only game 3DS had last holiday was Paper Mario, and that's no system seller - so is there any wonder it didn't do terrific last holiday? And in January-February last year 3DS was still riding on the SMB3DL and Mario Kart 7 wave, so there's no wonder it haven't done as well this year either. But YOY I think April/May has been better this year. And with Donkey Kong, Zelda and muthafrekkin Pokémon coming this year sales will absolutely explode!
