Strike at enemies weak points to get extra turns? Wow, didn't think one sentence would turn my most anticipated 3DS game into one I just don't want to get.... but there you go. If they were going to go with a real time battle system it should of been a sequel to one of the spinoff series.

You read that completely wrong dude. The game is turn based and uses the press turn system like Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga. Enemies have weak points (ie. enemies weak to fire, ice, electricity, physical attacks, etc.) and you get extra turns but exploiting these weaknesses. This is pretty much par for the course for a lot of the games in this series.
They went with a real time battle system in the Raidou games btw.

That's even worse.
If they weren't going to make it like a ShinMegami Tensei game... they should of given it one of the spinoffs names. Like one of the two you just mentioned.
The button pressing turn based battles always seemed so lame, replacing some strategy with button mashing ability in a silly attempt to make turn based battles seem more active. I mean shit, combo based fighters are even more niche then RPGs for a reason.

Dude, dude. You're not understanding correctly.
THERE IS NO BUTTON MASHING. You exploit weaknesses by using your skills. For example, if there is an enemy that's weak to ice, you use Agi, a fire spell. By doing that you do more damage and get an extra turn. There is no button mashing involved. This is the way it's been for Nocturne, DDS, Persona 3 and 4, etc. They haven't changed anything.
Which SMT games have you played? The really old ones? Is this exploiting weaknesses for more turns thing a new concept to you? Th

The actual Shin Megami Tensei games yes. The old ones.
I get the one your talking about now... and it's still worse.
Weaknesses should be there, but not overwhelming. Otherwise you just end up playing Rock Paper Scissors all day.
In SMT core games (which this is) weaknesses were there, but they weren't overwhelming. So sometimes it might make more sense to use something else rather then just spam the right elemental attack to get extra turns.
If they're going to switch the battle systsem to the spinoffs system... they should stick with the spinoff names.
I get what your talking about now... and despite adding an extra trick... those games had less depth in strategy.
