I don't think they've learned their lessons at all when it comes to pricing and launching systems. PS1&2 had massive success by launching first with lesser specs and affordable prices. With the PS3 Sony went with an "elitest" system that launched late and cost a lot. They did it again with Vita, and it looks like they will be doing it again with PS4 to some extent. This strategy holds them back from total market dominance.
I do think they've learned some lessons on production and R&D costs though. PS4 has the possibility of being a financial success for the company - something PS3 never had - and it should come in at a somewhat more reasonable price. It should also not lose time to Xi, though it is a year behind WiiU.
