| Max King of the Wild said: Okay, I see your point with developers. But I was addressing the fact that he said Epic despises Nintendo... but Epic isn't even really a developer. their main business is Unreal Engine and licensing that to developers with developing a secondary endeavor. Epic works more with developers than they would with manufacturers and Epic would be more than glad to license their engine to anyone who wants to pay for it. It has nothing to do with hating Nintendo. They said straight up that their engine could be on the Wii U if a developer wants to take their time to make it but that is pointless because the Wii U can't handle the things that make UE4 UE4 and it would be exactly like their UE3 engine that the developers could use instead. |
Point taken on the first half, and certainly agree with the bold.
Underlined I slightly disagree with. Despite being far less powerfull than the PS4 (it is), the Wii U IS in fact a newer architecture. The UE4 has hooks in it to take advantage of those newer architecture items. So an UE4 game on the Wii U would/should look prettier than an UE3 game on the Wii U. That being said, I think most of the demand for the UE4 engine is coming from developers that want to put out games on the Xbox next/PS4... There is no return on investment for Epic to port it at this time without developer demand.
The key question is how easy is it to port from UE4 to UE3 code? If it is difficult to migrate between engines, and those said developers above see a large installed base for the Wii U, they might start asking Epic for the UE4 on Wii U so they can port "easily". If Epic sees a revenue potential (demand from developers), they will do it. Of course, this has yet to happen and no one knows if it ever will.
