Congrats to both companies for having such phenominally successful consoles and while the software shipments weren't that close the hardware sales battle went down to the wire. Ofcourse I recognise that the PS2 and DS are from seperate generations and were not direct competitors but nevertheless it was very entertaining to observe the battle for all time HW shipments. Now that the dawn of the 8th gen is upon us we can only hope that any of the companies can have similar results especially considering the competition from things like tablets/smartphones.

But they didn't stop manufacturing the DS. Some journalist who should have his writers license revoked jumped to the conlucion that Nintendo stopped producing the DS because they didn't include a projected shipment figure for the next fiscal year. Then it spread like wildfire on forums....like this one.
But when the truth came out that Nintendo didn't stop production and have no plans to stop production, it wasn't hot news and few people saw it it.
