Could happen sooner than we think. The gap is about 180 million, but PS3 is going to maintain decent software sales and will have support along with the 360 for at least a couple years. So maybe the PS3 will do it by 2015 or 2016 at the latest. I'm not sure how fast sofware sales will decline when 8th gen consoles roll around.
The 360 only has 86 million to go. I think 360 can accomplish this by early 2014. With games like CoD Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed 4, Watch Dogs, Batman: AO, GTAV, Saint's Row 4, Madden 25, and great legs of other 360 titles, that gap is going to be history.
