He was a clone of Pikachu. Look at all the Pokemon's in
PT - Charizard, Ivysaur, Squirtle
Lucario
Pikachu
Jigglypuff
That's 4 with 7 pokemon. 5 would be more than Mario, which would be stretching it a bit.
