Good point, you're right. Nintendo waited over 20 years before making a true successor to Super Mario World, and when they did, the game was fresh and original, with great level design and new gameplay elements.

What did you expect EA to do? Change the way Football is played?

Since the game requires so little effort, they could just, y'know, not charge $60 for it. There's no reason most EA Sports games can't just be a $10 patch of last year's game. "Oh, I see you bought Madden '10 last year. Would you like to update to Madden '11 for $9.99?"
