The Nintendo owners effectively spent next to nothing on EA software last generation, and EA taking that cue spent just about as much on game development for the Wii U. I actually believe them, because I think it was a question of whether the engine would work as is, and if it didn't work as is they weren't going to waste time and money getting it to work on the platform. I honestly don't understand what the complaining is about. Nintendo console owners bought the console explicitly to play a few first party games from Nintendo. They had no real intention of buying games from third parties, and they almost always own a second console to play third party games on. Third party game development on Nintendo consoles is actually pretty redundant. Personally I think the GameCube generation was probably the last purist generation as far as Nintendo was concerned. It is just a secondary console brand now, or a expensive peripheral for those that have that kind of money to waste. I think that last generations over the top casual focus finally forced a lot of purists into adopting other consoles. I also think that it was quite the revelation for them, and a lot of them aren't coming back. I would say if anything Nintendo and its fans have been pretty stupid. You can't just squander third party support, and expect it to stick around. If you don't use it you will absolutely lose it. Third party game developers make games to make money. If they aren't making money then they can't continue making games. What else is there to say really. This has been going on for a long time. Third parties getting squeezed off of the platform to make even more room for Nintendo. |
