There was a troll thread a while back asking when Wii U would cost $99 and the author thought 2014. Well I want to know when it will reach $199.99.

It has already happened, 5 days ago

UK price with VAT £149 before VAT £124.17*Current exchange rate= .................. $193.05

end thread/

Have fun buying without the VAT in UK.

In some US states they don't pay Tax so when comparing prices you do it pre-tax then convert it to Dollars. Asda/Amazon got £124.17 when selling the Wii U the rest went to Uk Gov convert that to dollars and it has already been sold for the equivalent of $200.

If youre a retail outlet sure, but if you buy the console even in a US state from amazon.co.uk or asda you still have to pay the VAT, and of course the shipping on top of that, which makes it way more than the $200, it's not like either store say 'oh hey you dont pay tax in that particular american state so we'll drop the VAT on this UK console for you', so unless the retailer is based in the US i'm failing to see why you'd do a pre-tax on UK based outlets as nobody can buy the UK consoles without that tax.

If particular locations in the UK had no TAX then sure, the consoles below $200, but thats like saying "omg the wiiu costs more than the ps3 did at launch" then linking to a store where the VAT of the native country and the realtive rarity of such devices is so that the price is inflated greatly, you can't just tack on or off, tax and region as you choose.

I see where you're coming from of course, if the console was on sale in the US at that price, it would indeed be under $200. but until someone can genuinely go out and buy a new system from the store for under $200 then it's not the case.
