Theres been some discussion on what made GC underperform and it seems like it was due to letting PS2 have a big headstart, image as being too kiddy and many of its key franchises changed too much. So how would it have done if.....

Launch Sept 2000 in Japan, Nov in NA and Feb 01 in Europe. Change the appearance of the system to be more appealing like Wii or PS2 which were both slick, stylish and looked like it belonged under the tv instead of the kids room, this could help make it more appealing to teens/college students. Have the controller look like Wii U Pro Controller and maybe have it be wireless from the get go and sell additional controllers for $49.99. Key launch games could include Perfect Dark and Rogue Squadron (build from the ground up for GC instead of N64), Mario Party and Wave Race. Multiplat games like Tony Hawk, Madden, and others would appear. Due too earlier launch and wireless controller, the console would cost $279.99 at launch and could take sell well initially form PS2 shortages and slightly cheaper.

Throughout 2001 we could see games like Pikmin, Dinosaut Planet, Conker, Eternel Darkness, Resident Evil Zero, Luigis Mansion ans Smash Bros Melee and a price cut to $199.99 right before the holiday season. 2002 would have REmake, Star Fox Assault by Rare, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime. In May 2003 a price cut to $149.99 would be accompanied by New Super Mario Bros and Zelda Twilight Princess/Mario Kart would be the big holiday titles. 2004 would have Pikmin 2, Metroid Prime 2, Kameo, DKC Returns and Resident Evil 4. 2005 sees GC a price cut to $99.99 as sales slow down and people get ready for next gen systems.

If this were to have happened I believe GC could have gone on to sell over 40m with a few 10m selling games.
