oh yes! After playing a CGI dragon we will all certainly know him! Just like the general public knows who Serkis is.

 

Trust me, the general public know who Serkis is. He is well known for the LOTR plus his Rise of the Planet of the Apes role as Caesar. Just because we won't see cumberbatch's face doesn't mean he won't be recognized when he's credited for the role of Smaug or doing interviews on late night shows etc.
