Sorry I think you mis-understood what I meant. I mean the Dreamcast was by far the easiest, you didn't have to chip it, obtain a "specialist" cartridge or flash it or anything. You just needed a CD-R on a standard system for a boot disc and then CD-Rs for your software.
The DS could have suffered a similar fate with the R4 cart etc, but I think it was easily well enough established with it's userbase for it to become an issue. DS games also required nowhere near the development budget of Dreamcast games. I've understand PSP software sales were badly dented due to the rampant piracy on the system.
