How do you give public displays of affection to a stranger?

when im genuinely happy seeing a person, mostly women i usually give them a hug...
funny a lot of my straight friends (guys) dont mind it, they actually hug back...
im a huggy person, maybe i should move to some part of europe where people likes to hug
