This.  Vita is going to be last place for the portable consoles this gen, Wii U will be last place for home consoles this gen.

I think this year the Vita will have more overall sales than the Wii U if there's ever a price drop, but eventually the Wii U will have more sales altogether when its price drop hits and the catalog of Mario games starts coming in.  The problem with Vita is Sony rarely does price drops on consoles so after one price drop we won't see another for awhile.  With Nintendo, they're not against doing console price drops because their first party games are almost always full MSRP their entire lifespan. 

That being said.  Right now the Vita is doing better when it comes to the games.  It has more quality exclusives.  I haven't yet bought any PS3 games on my Vita(although DoA5, Rayman Origins, and Dragon's Crown will eventually happen) and the Wii U is in the same boat with just about every game worth getting on another console.  Unless you're a die hard Nintendo fan, there is no reason to purchase a Wii U at this point when you can wait until it finally starts getting exclusives giving a reason to purchase it.

The casual owners who bought the Wii are no longer there so the Wii U is not going to profit on the vast majority of them. 

Most PS360 owners on the other hand will purchase the PS4 or NextBox in the next gen rather than purchasing a console that is marginably more powerful.  The fact that Wii U has received PS360 ports that look the same already killed it in their minds because it's not a graphically intessive console as they're going to see once the PS4 and NextBox actually reach the market.  The Wii U will be a second or third console for some, but not a primary.

Not only that, but there is one group of casual gamers who are going to more than likely upgrade to the PS4 or NextBox over the others.  The group of casual gamers that started playing games because of Call of Duty.  The people who got into gaming this gen and own nothing but military shooters.  They're either going to stay on the PS360 and purchase the ports that came to the system, or they're going to upgrade to PS4 or Next Box once they stop getting ports of the games.

PC gamers will probably not jump over to consoles if they haven't already.

the tradicional gamers that compose a BIG chunk of wii sales are still there, it might surprise you but the group of people who hate nintendo and will never buy their consoles is actually a minority.

same old whining, wii u is much more capable than ps360 could ever dream of.

Just like the xbox 360 was kindly nicknamed "xbox 1.5" thanks to it's ports that looked like ps2 games?
