An even though the PS3 would end up being a project that made money, Sony still sacrificed a lot for it to happen, not to mention that the income won't even come close to PS2. And I haven't brought up the fact that Sony lost millions off players to Xbox, and they didn't win the gen (compared to last when they sold around 7 times more than their closes competitor). |
No, the PS3 was still a success, just not as successfull as the PS2.
Besides, with Sony and Microsoft having such relatively equal share of the market it's really created allot of healthy competition which benefits us gamers, cheaper hardware and more features! Win win!
Plus the other flipside of the coin, was that the PS3 was a big pusher of Blu-Ray, which indirectly makes Sony money.

It ain't a success when you lose as much as Sony did. Sure, it might be a success profit wise (someday), but that won't make up for the fact that they let Microsoft come up to fight. The PS2 crushed the original Xbox (as I said 7 to 1), and now PS3 and Xbox 360 are pretty much on the same levels hardware wise, but Xbox wins by the software. And as I said, the PS3 is currently a project that Sony has LOST money on. I really don't see why you are calling it a success.
