True, it is that many Charismatic and Baptist church members are slow to get behind - and very common in the South. It was recently highlighted a similar problem with several southern states still not wanting to have mixed race proms. There is a community that host many weddings in Arkansas, and it was one of the first places to offer full marriage serves for same sex couples - way back I think around the time California did.
And in California, you have Orange County, one of the most bigoted places in the USA – where some people spend lots of money to promote things like ‘death to homosexuals’ in other countries. There are pockets of extremes all over the place.
