When was it that gaming became synonymous with dude-bro culture?

From my point of view it was already back when Counter-strike became popular. That's when it became legit for the cool guys to play games, at least here in Sweden.

It already started with Doom a few years before that, but with Counter-strike it exploded. You almost were a nerd it you didn't play CS.
