I think MS is building XBOX to be a big brand that isn't about Gaming at the core but that could work for them, who knows

You are correct.  If you look at how MS has branded their music, movies and other services as Xbox, you see that MS is trying to leverage the xbox brand as something more than just games.  There still is and will be an xbox console but if MS comes out with other types of devices like a Xbox TV then they can associate their brand with that device to garner customer attention.

Does that mean that this will dilute the Xbox console as a game machine?  At this stage who knows.  MS is a big company so its not like they cannot do more than one thing at a time.  There is the MS games division and there is the Zune rebranded Xbox Music and Videos division.  The all have their individual budgets and look to strengthen their brand.  This is no different than what Sony does as they are a corporation as well.  I believe the difference with MS is that they are always trying to integrate all of their services into each other to form a stronger product.  Sony tries this as well but they have years of culture within the company that make such integrations difficult.

In the end, its probably smart to integrate compatiable customer services together to make a stronger product.
