If you like Ni No Kuni, you might like Dragon Quest VIII or IX, but they do take about an hour or so to get into. I didn't like the first 20 minutes or so of DQVIII, but after 40 minutes, it was really addictive. My advice is to start with VIII or IX though, and see if it's for you.

I feel the same about Sticker Star, they took out a lot of RPG components, and really simplified gameplay, so it kinda threw me off. Have you played Super Mario RPG? It's a bit old, but it has the same comedy as Paper Mario, and at the same time plays much more like a traditional RPG. I played SMRPG first, and was a bit disappointed in Paper Mario because it's less RPG, and more Puzzle game, but both are still very similar.

If you don't like SMRPG, you'll never like Final Fantasy, but it's a good game to try to really give Square Enix a chance.

Anyway, you're not biased, you just don't like shovelware, crap, branded crap, or traditional RPG's.

I have always thought about getting the Super Mario RPG games but never did for some reason.  Are you talking about Mario & Luigi saga?  Or are you talking about the old Mario rpg for snes....I believe it was for SNES anyways.

I'll probably pick up the new Mario & Luigi game for the 3DS when it comes out though.

I was refering to the SNES Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars.

Mario and Luigi....it's not as good as Super Mario RPG, or Paper Mario. I played the original, and I just didn't like it. You might like it though, I think it's your taste (I also really didn't like Persona).

I don't think you would like the old school style RPG's too much, so as good as Super Mario RPG and Dragon Quest VIII and IX are, you probably would like Mario & Luigi and Ni No Kuni better. Still, if you like those games, what I have recommended are similar games worth a look at.
