I think the main reason that this bothers me though is just that I don't like how it looks at a visceral level.

You hear all this shit talk about the Wii U not even counting as a next-gen console, and that it doesn't deserve to be talked about on the same terms as the PS4 and the 720. Yet at the first E3 in which those two will be featured, Nintendo is scaling back their presence. It comes off like a concession that it doesn't deserve to be on the same stage, which plays into the shrill bleating of the doomsayers.

I wanted to see Nintendo do a conference because I wanted them to fight back against the shit-talk head on. Showcase a slate of solid heavy hitters on stage as proof that the system is worth buying just like the other two next gen consoles, in the most visible way possible. Small, closed pressers and floor shows simply don't have that same kind of impact to me.

The key thing to remember is that the haters are full of shit (won't say the naysayers as a whole as there are legitimate concerns with the console still). Nintendo haters are a rare breed of bullshitter, in my experience, and you can never give their opinions legitimacy.
