| Gamerace said: As far as Nintendo's core market (their fans) ND is more than adequate and allows them 100% control of the message. As far as 'core' gamers go, or PC/Sony/MS gamers anyway - it's obvious by now that WiiU isn't going to sway them no matter what they show (unless they are also Nintendo fans). What's really disturbing is E3 is one of the only industry events that makes it into the main stream press. If Nintendo would rather communicate with it's fans via ND, that's fine. If they ignore Sony/MS fans, fine again. But not having a press conference at E3 is Nintendo basically giving up on gaining any casual gamer support. It suggests very strongly that Nintendo themselves do not believe Wii Fit U and Wii Party U will attract a broader market otherwise those two and Mario Kart would be 60-70% of their E3 presentation. And without the broader market that boosted both DS and Wii, WiiU's sales will be quite limited no matter how many Marios and Zeldas they put on it. This is great news if you're a Nintendo fans as it's suggests Nintendo's only strategy left will be to milk it's fans of all their money by giving them all the games they want, at least until a successor to WiiU can be brought out. |
You do know that the press is still meeting directly with Nintendo and getting hands-on demos right? FAR better than a canned press conference that has to cover everything to everybody. Having the mainstream press in the room, getting their hands on games before the show even opens is vastly superior to showing them a bunch of trailers and saying "Doesn't that look cool?" and making them wait until the next day to fight through lines and with time limits to play the games.
If you ask any casual gamer if they know whatE3 is, they will say "No, what?". Then when you tell them that it is where MS, Sony and Nintendo talk about their new games and consoles coming up this year, they will say one of two things. "Oh....it's a gaming thing" or "Hey! I love my Wii!" (or what have you). E3 is for gamers and the press, both of which are getting more intimate presentations from Nintendo directly. It is not for the casual audience, which is why every E3 press conference for as long as I can remember has sucked, because they are trying to cater to the causal audience that doesn't even know the thing exists.
