Unions between men and women are older than "marriages" period I guess but that isnt my point.

Point is - Christianity is against homosexuality as a act - so why are the churches and the state pushing forth churches to do homosexual weddings. Why not just give them the certificate/license for a civil union? Why bend the laws of a church?

What happened to separation between Church and State?

Nobody is forcing churches to do anything. Gay marriage has been legal in Canada for 10 years now. I got married to my boyfriend last August and we couldn't get married in a Catholic church because the Catholic Church doesn't approve of gay weddings. We still had a wonderful wedding with the ceremony taking place at the same hotel we were having the reception. The ceremony was done by a priest from a branch of Christianity who allows gay weddings.

So legalizing gay marriage doesn't mean forcing any Church to do something against their faith, it's simply gives gay people the option to get married.
