Nintendo not holding traditional E3 press conference this year?

I can somewhat understand why they would skip the traditional e3 presentation, but part of me feels like they are waving the white flag in regards to e3. They aren't even going to try to compete directly with sony and ms. Theres no way nin direct reaches a broader audience/exposure then e3 either.
