More to the point ARM is competitive with Intel Atom's "Medfield", the new Atom's will be faster than ARM when intel moves Atom to an OOO design, Jaguar should put both to shame in the CPU department in terms of IPC.
To put it into perspective though, only recently has ARM surpassed Atom which is a 5 year old CPU design in terms of performance, an Intel Pentium M (Which was the basis for the Core 2 Duo) is roughly twice as fast as Atom in terms of IPC at the same clock.
However, with that said, they're all pretty poor performers which-ever way you cut the cake, they're all chips that go into low-powered devices like Netbooks, Tablets and Phones, it's what Desktop PC's had in terms of performance per-thread over a decade ago.

Yeah. Hopefully it gives them a financial boost.
AMD *needs* to be competitive in the high-end again, it increases the amount of price compression in Intel and AMD's lineups which is better for all PC gamers regardless of what platform you opt for, not to mention the only real competition Intel has is AMD on the GPU front and ARM on the power efficiency front, both of which Intel are making large strides in. (Provided you care for low power consumption and a fast IGP, I personally don't.)

If anything, you shouldn't notice much difference between CPU's, I didn't notice much when moving from an AMD FX to a Core i7 3930K when gaming in Eyefinity.
At eyefinity resolutions you are ALWAYS GPU limited first and foremost, so if you ever want big gains, look at the GPU's.
Also hope you don't run into stutter, I ended up going Tri-Fire to get around that. :)
