The reason they brought up the 10 year thing was because they were trying to reassure consumers that their product was a long term products, one in part to concern over price and two in regards to recent consoles losing all support like the Xbox and Gamecube. Sony supports their console even after the next one, not asking their consumer bases to purchase the new machine to get new games. That's another reason why MS made the claim for the 360 later, to reassure consumers. Anything outside of that was taken out of context by the very media that was asking them the questions that gave them that answer.
