Is Nintendo even able or willing to surprise anymore?

Early this year the announcement for Shin MegamiXFire Emblem was really out of nowhere the same goes for Monolithsofts X. To get to the last Ndirect the LttP sequel in sytle of the classic was surprising even to fans for two reasons, no one expected the announcement this early and most expected a more 3D gameplay Zelda instead of a classic one. Also the localisation of Bravely Default comes to mind when talking about surprising announcement.

I admit that my thread title was chosen poorly but I'm talking about the actual games developed by Nintendo. I don't feel surprised by them when playing them or when watching gameplay videos. This is not about announcements or business deals.
