Do Graphics really matter?

If you mean similar games, it's hard to find an example of two similar games available on the same console, one with good and one with bad graphics. I could mention New Super Mario Bros. Wii outselling Galaxy, but it was bundled, and they gameplay is different.

What about Call of Duty and Killzone? Yes Killzone is sci fi, and CoD isn't, but Killzone 3's online feels a lot like Modern Warfare 3, and Killzone is the better game graphically, yet people buy CoD over it.

So it would appear to me that graphics have little, to no say on a games sales.

Are you're saying that graphics only matter in FPS's, but in other genres people care more about animation, and maybe artistic design?

You're introducing other variables, CoD sells on brand recognition, other things etc. FPS = Frames per Second.

2 exactly the same games, on the exact same system, released at the exact same time, exact same controls. WIth only different graphics. Which one would you pick? That is my point.  In order for them not to matter, you'd have to have no preference in this hypothetical situation. I'm not saying graphics are more important than something else, or even that important.

Animation, and artistic design I would consider graphics in videogames.Graphics are obviously not the most important factor, otherwise everyone would have PC SLI'ed Geforce Titans.  

Yea, but if two identical games released, with the only difference being graphics, who wouldn't choose the better looking game?People will always buy the version with more.

I think what you consider graphics, is not what most people consider graphics.

My question is straight up graphics, resolution, polygon count, highly rendered facial animations, etc. How important is that? I mean the PS4 is more powerful then the Wii U, but, who cares?

I play games for what they are, I tend to like really unique and interesting games like Fallout 3, XenoBlade, Catherine, Fire Emblem, etc. From what I've noticed on these threads, most people here really like games like this, but in general they don't really sell that well. In general they don't, but there are exceptions (Last of Us, Fallout, etc)

So with the PS4 just that much more powerful then the Wii U, is that enough to get the PS4 over the Wii U?

I should have asked if people are buying a PS4 because of the graphical jump or because of the games, but right now PS4 has almost nothing for it IMO.
