Except the GBA was a monster in the U.S. It was doing much better than the 3DS is at this point.

It's retty clear now that the market for dedicated handhelds have shrunk, I'm not sure there is anything Nintendo can do about it.

But the 3DS had a bad start due to high price. The GBA and DS launched for $149.

I'm not denying the market may have shrunk due to other mobile devices. However, at this rate the 3DS will still surpass GBA lifetime sales. Maybe not achieve DS sales, but DS is one of the best selling platforms ever.

The 3DS had a high price for what? 4 months? It's been at a reasonable $169.99 for a long time now. I agree it will overtake GBA's sales, but more because the GBA really didn't get a proper life cycle.

Five months, and after it's launch it's sales stagnated significantly worldwide. GBA and DS did not have that problem. Hell, 3DS sold 50k in July 2011 in the US. Both consoles also launched with a Mario game. 3DS sales didn't really start to pick up until the holiday season when Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 hit.
