I posted my thoughts in the comments section of the article. The article puts a lot of blame, rightfully, on the publishers. But a lot of blame should be shouldered by the developers, and platform holders. (Especially the mobile platform holders.) Since right now the market is in almost perfect condition to tear itself apart, potentially eclipsing what happened in the 1980's.

We have tablets driving down PC sales which tablets rely on the mobile game market.

The mobile game market platform holders are even less interested in the well being the game market then Atari was in the 80's allowing anyone and everyone to release games onto their storefronts, allow blantent IP infringement (hey as long as they are not infringing on them) and taking no action unless a lawyer threatens to take action.

We have developers who use preditory tactics to get as much money out of their customers as possible, because hey most mobile gamers are not attached to a developer so get them while they are playing.

We have the "AAA" publishers trying to out spend each other killing off most growth in the console section.

Console gaming is on the decline, so developers are trying their luck on the mobile front and finding limited sucess, so they are reducing their console involvment, in favor of mobile.

The PC market who resurgance has a lot to do with the strength of the console market is in "good" condition right now, but look at the first item in my list.

There is some good in the market but my fear is it may be too little to late to stop a major "correction" in the market.
