Nintendo IPs sold well when the hardware did well. You can hardly say the same for the GC.
Look at how NSMB Wii-U is doing when 2D Marios where supposed to have an Apple-like appeal when it comes to sales.
Also, a polarized user base where the most of the top games are all owned by a single company isn't exactly an attractive environment to other devs, is it?
