I agree. the combat got repetitive and boring. I set myself to finish it for the promise of an interesting ending. It was worth it and made me want to play the best part of the game again, the beginning. I did lose interest quickly after that though.
This video sums up perfectly what I found lacking with the game (MAJOR SPOILERS)
Each game in the series has its pros and cons
Bioshock:
+ Great beginning
+ Great level design
+ Great story and world, well integrated with gameplay
- Repetitive, front loaded, gets boring
- Ending
Bioshock 2:
++ Best level design, huge open levels to explore
+ Great gameplay (after first hours) stayed fun to the end.
+ Ending, game keeps getting better
- Story, not that interesting
-- Worst beginning, first hours
Bioshock Infinite:
++ Best opening, great beginning
+ Great story and world although not well integrated with the gameplay
+ Best artwork and environments
- Lineair level design
- Repetitive limited combat, gets boring
- Horrible tower defense ending
