I agree, even when they managed to get all the original cast to do voiceover, the acting is much richer on the original even though the recording quality was somewhat poor; the opposite is true for TTS where sometimes the characters seem dumbed down or their acting doesn't feel natural. One of the key differences in this point is the fact that they used a different actor for Gray Fox; which one you prefer is a matter of personal taste. They tried to make translation from japanese to english more accurate losing a bit of context and coherence to the western culture in the process, but this is only noticeable on very few scenes. The scenarios and the progression of the game was largerly unchanged, the athmosfere on the other hand does feel different because of graphic and audio effects.
Overall it is a great game and you bought it for a fair price since it is somewhat rare to find, so it is a nice addition to your collection weather you profer one version or the other. If you haven't played the original I would highly recommend it to you so you can experience the original vision of Kojima of this story. TTS was developed while Kojima was directing MGS3, so it was not directed by Kojima himself. Right now I'm waiting for an ultimate version of the game directed by Kojima or developed by his new LA studio, this probably won't happen for at least ten years until they finish the timeline of Big Boss on the upcoming titles.
