Article brings up some decent points. Like what will happen once the early adopters stop buying the next MS and Sony system and have to try and sell their consoles to consumers with a ~$500 price tag. Will the sales come to a crawl or even worse than the recent Wii U sales?

Nintendo could have a pretty good sales recovery if they pretty much do what they did with the 3DS. Drop the price during the summer (250 basic, 300 deluxe) and release Mario Kart and 3D Mario by the holiday season. While sales might not skyrocket into Wii sales levels it should provide a much needed healthy boost.

price is relative to function.  for proof look no further than vita vs. the smartphone.  costing more and doing more is very successful for smartphones.

this will be the same for wiiU vs. ps4/xbox8.

wiiU is just games.  it can't even play a dvd lol.  ps4/xbox8 will play games and a hell of a lot more.  ps hasn't really announced their multimedia stuff yet and xbox has yet to announce anything but even at $300 vs. $500 it won't take much to make wiiU look irrelavent.  ..especially when it isn't even getting half the games either.  i guess we'll know for sure soon enough but i don't think miiverse, a web browser, and netflix is going to stack up to MS's services on the next xbox.

You mention Wii U is just games then you mention Netflix, Miiverse, and browser. Don't forget about Amazon, Hulu+, and TVii. Also, you bring up that it can't play DVDs. Who fucking cares? If you can't afford a DVD player then you probably can't afford a Wii U. Might as well throw Blu ray in there while you are at it. You people act like the multimedia functions will be far superior on Sony and Microsoft systems. Honestly, the only thing the Wii U is missing is a music player like the one on 3DS (I would love to see Pandora app too). What is Sony's response to Miiverse? Facebook and Twitter integration. Tis a shame I'm missing out on those shitty sites.

when you start talking about features that wiiU needs and would catch it up to the current state of the ps360 then yes, the multimedia function will be far superiour on MS and sony systems.  if you don't think (MS especially) isn't about to wow us with a much improved system with really cool new features then you underestimate the competition.

..and sony already teased their version of miiverse.  they showed 1 screenshot during the ps4 reveal and moved on.  if you remember "social" was one of their design pillars so don't mistake not knowing for not having.  i'll put  a list together once we have details if you want and we can do a true comparison between wiiU and MSony's consoles.

You are right. I don't understand and the stuff I understand I underestimate. I don't understand paying to be able to play Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon when every other device doesn't charge extra (Microsoft). I also underestimate the need to watch friends play video games and have someone jump in and play a part of game having trouble with when there are plenty of walkthroughs on Youtube and guides on Gamefaqs (Sony). Sure there may be plenty of people that might care or view it as acceptable for paying more to access same services. To be honest the thing that impresses me the most about 360 multimedia functions is the music player. This is the only trump card I see them holding considering I will never pay for cable again in my life. I am not the typical consumer so it probably takes more to impress me than cable integration (considering TVii already exists) and a Miiverse app with video and ability to play someone else's game.
