I'm with you OP, all the way!
The GC wasn't perceived very well, and that's just a fact. Even the new kid on the block (xbox) sold better than the GC. And why is that? Because GC was perceived as kiddy. A purple lunch box with an uninteresting Mario and a cartoonish Zelda...
I'm not saying it's a bad console with bad games, just that the mainstream audience didn't think of it as a bad ass console with bad ass games. That's what turned ME off on it. It didn't seem pretty awesome to me. I thought it was ugly as hell and was majorly disappointing with WW (although I'm psyched to play the remake later on!).
So people need to stop bitching about how awesome GC was; it might very well have been, BUT it wasn't perceived as such - and that's what matters.
