Set top boxes need memory.. Lot's of memory. Every set top box in shops here has at least a 500G harddrive and/or a writeable medium.

It was a thread about Sony patenting something along the line of "A hw device that attaches to a console and adds sw compatibility". What makes people think that MS suddenly invented the wheel? I'm pretty sure Sony could build such an addon for the PS4 that contains a PS3 SoC, it they wanted...


The 56-page document leak that was rumored to be of 2010 and that already said that there will be two xboxes. It doesn't mention that they are going to be connected but it sounds reasonable to suggest that MS had plans to do this from beginning. The whole current leak makes a lot more sense considering the old document from MS.

Also, patenting is not inventing. And of course Sony could do this but they decided to use Gaikai when it's ready.
