Has any console ever received as much negative press prior to it's reveal as the Nextbox has?

The PS3's first 6 months or so saw some absolutely vicious hatred as I recall.

And while I can't be sure as I didn't have the internet then, the excitement and positivity surrounding the PS2 before launch was quite something in my experience; the magazine articles, the giddy joy of several PS1 owners I knew, promises of Toy-Story level graphics...

Not sure if its on the same level of the Wii U, though. 

I'm not sure either, but it was pretty intense. Message boards were flooded with "Sony is doomed," "PS3 has no games," "PS3 will drop off the market soon," "I'm selling my PS3 and getting a Wii/360." I'd say it was in the same ballpark.
