Well my Fiance is definitely a "Casual gamer"! XD But ive met tons of girls who play the exact same games as guys. I definitely agree with your sentiment. Though most definitely there are fewer women than men who play "hardcore" games. Then again that depends alot on what types of games you consider "hardcore".
