This is a terrible article.

First off, they talk as if it's completely IMPOSSIBLE to appeal to both the hardcore and casual demographics. Microsoft sucessfully appealed to both demographics with the 360/Kinect. They did it, no matter how you spin it. The author also bashes all motion controls calling them gimmicks, and doesn't appear to even like local multiplayer??? (He also said "on a motion free next gen console" bullshit) He also bashes microtransactions, even though big publishers like EA are embracing them, so does that make them casual too?

Microsoft is all about casuals now, they cared for the hardcore but that changed once Kinect came along.

You know now what MS with NextBox is about? Interesting. I recently read about PSeye, sharing features, next PS more social, aiming for the central device of the living room... sounds somehow not so hardcore...

Sony has been aiming for the center of the living room before Microsoft came. The difference between Sony and Microsoft is actually quite simple to understand. They dont let the first and second party games get overshadowed by the functionality of the console.
