I just don't see a future for the Vita as a hardware platform in the West. It's nice that its getting some indie games, but it really doesn't mean much if it only serves a niche audience.
Nintendo will always own the kids segment of the handheld market, which is quite honestly the majority of the handheld demographic in the West.
The "dudebros" crowd won't be caught dead in public with a gaming handheld because they're not "cool" devices. And they want to play "real" console games on their big screen plasma. iPhone/Android is good enough to burn a few minutes on the go.
I predict a Nintendo tablet that one-ups the Vita hardware will be coming in the next couple of years, if Nintendo is smart they will let it run a modified version of the Android OS, so that it can function as a "real tablet" too.
