Yes. But if Nintendo turns the WiiU around this coming Holiday, the PS4 is gong to have a hard time.

Why?

Because Sony have made the daft decision to include 8GB of GDDR5 and a GPU pushing 1.8TFlops inside their console. There's no way in hell that it's going to retail for less than 400 dollars despite Sony's latest fundraising efforts.

I can see both the PS4 and 720 selling worse than the Wii U.

It's not going to retail for $599 either. Hell at $599 the PS3 was selling better than the Wii U in the same timeframe. Price could be $450. It'll be expensive but I don't know why the Wii U would hurt it. My answer to that will be in my response to spurge.

Let's wait for the price annoucements before making any assumptions shall we?

But I didn't assume anything!

I don't see what Wii U doing well has anything to do with the PS4's success.

Because even though you may be a 19 year old millionaiire, others are not. We saw the same thing with the Vita launch and 3DS. Nintendo released too many good games for gamers not to bite. Leaving the Vita launch as a disappointment. If the Wii U has a killer enough Christmas, they could make some choose them over PS4.

The handheld and console markets are entirely different. As far as dedicated handhelds go Nintendo practically dominates that sector. People don't want a Vita because it's basically filled with niche and indie games, plus it's priced at $250 along with expensive memory cards. The 3DS still has a ton of room for improvement in the West though (sales can be much stronger than they are now), and faces competition from smartphones and tablets, same as Vita.

The competition in the console market is different because of the types of games the PS4 (and 720) will offer over the Wii U. You'll have the majority of major Western third party support on the PS4/720 and not on the Wii U--and people will expect that. This is what made the PS3/360 so strong and the Wii lacking. Now, the Wii had a major edge and was dominant for quite a time because of its casual focus, but can you say that Nintendo has the same casual hook with the Wii U? I doubt it.

What's left is a lack of third party support, but a potentially strong Nintendo offering this holiday. But can some Nintendo games alone help push people from a PS4 to a Wii U? Again, highly doubtful. Most people are going to prefer the types of games on the PS4/720, particularly the dudebro crowd and the more hardcore gamers. Not only that, but the PS4 at least has a large mainstream following---the PS4 teaser on Youtube has 28 million views. Way more attention than the Wii U has gotten.

What are you expecting for the Wii U this holiday? Mario Kart, 3D Mario? Maybe Zelda Wind Waker HD? Will some Mario games and maybe an HD version of an old Zelda game really push the PS3/360 crowd who are willing to upgrade to a Wii U over the PS4/720, despite the games that they want will not be on the Wii U? Once again, doubtful.

Now, I'm not saying the PS4/720 will be off to a very strong start (a bunch of major games will be cross gen), but I don't see the Wii U affecting them very much. More than likely they'll be off to a stronger start than the Wii U had.

If Nintendo get 3D Mario, Mario Kart,Zelda WW, Pikmin 3, w101  all out before or around the holidays. Then add Watch dogs, Ass Creed 4, Rayman, The inevitable new COD game and maybe GTAV ( yes GTAV hasnt been officially ruled out for Wii U, a man can dream) then Wii U might stand a decent chance.
