Wii U - 40 million

Vita - 30 million

I haven't seen a Vita in the wild ever. Not once. In the last month I flew into Vancouver, Seattle, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles and nada, not once in any of those airports did I see a single person with a Vita.

Everyone is on their tablets and smartphones.

I saw maybe one or two 3DS being played by kids. That's it. Handheld industry is sooooooo headed towards death in the West, people on this board are in massive, massive denial about it.

The "dudebros" crowd that drives 360/PS3/PS4/720 sales wants nothing to do with handhelds either, if they game they want a real console on their 50 inch LCD. For the 10-15 minutes on the road/day they might have an itch to game, their Samsung Galaxy or iPhone gets the job done for $1 a pop. Vita may still have a chance to carve out a niche in Japan, but that's it.

Wii U is simply the console no one but Nintendo fans asked for. It's another PS3/360 level hardware with a low-res touch panel on a controller the size of a personal pizza and mediocre third party support. It will have to be sold mostly on the back of Mario Kart and to a lesser degree Smash Bros (which is likely a lot of the same people buying Mario Kart, lol).
