They seemed to have difficulty getting software out in a timely fashion for the Wii, so it's not really surprising that they're having even more trouble with an HD console. It's going to really limit their ability to turn things around quickly.
Looking at their behavior regarding home consoles over the last two decades, I don't think Nintendo going into panic mode on the Wii U is going to be nearly as awesome or effective as it was when they did so on the 3DS. But it should be interesting to see what they'll do now, for sure.
