"Microsoft has always been very developer centric with all of their platforms and that Sony is embracing that approach is wonderful."
That's the whole point of the story. MS has always delivered good tools for development and always made developing games easy for devs. Sony does it nextgen also and everybody thinks "wow, Sony is so smart to do so!" but actually they are just keeping up with what MS always did. All this talk from devs that talking to MS is awful and Sony is so nice to devs seems like bought comments. I don't know the truth, of course, it's just an assumption.
