So really Mario was the only first party title that improved........

That's a matter of opinion, as I find, for example, Skyward Sword to be miles better than WW, Prime 3 to be better than the first two and Super Paper Mario to be awesome(can't compare it to TTYD, though, since these games are so much different gameplay-wise).

Also, Wave Race >>>>>>> Endless Ocean.
