Sony isnt the reason Flat Screen TV's became affordable. Sony is the initial reason DVD's became affordable in the early 2000's and Blu Ray players. The mass sales of Blu Ray Players and DVD's while they launched their console (and taking the financial hit in both gens). They are responsible for Blu Rays survival and the bedding which made it possible for people to buy them as low as $99 dollars today. 

Sony's goal was to bring multimedia to gaming? All they did was put a DVD player in a console. For the 7th gen all they did was put a Bluray player in a console. Sony was focused on physical media and didn't anticipate the boom of downloading and streaming media. MS saw the potential there before Sony and has capitalized on it.

I agree MS saw Sony as a threat. But MS looks at a lot of companies that can potentially take some of their market share as a threat. The problem Sony had in 2006 is they were under the illusion they had no competition and saw no threats

I don't recall MS vowing to save PC gaming, not that I feel it really needed saving per se. The biggest problem PC gaming has had is piracy. But for some genres there is more potential for profit on PC than consoles.

Bluray is about 7 years old now? It would have inevitably became $99 with Sony's help or not. I wish Sony somehow made Bluray movies cheaper. I mean $30-$35 for a new movie? They can go fuck themselves.
