If this were to happen, would people stop labeling the pad as a gimmic? 

LOL Do you know how many button commands would be needed to make starcraft work on console? They would need a Keyboard.  

The pad makes it really possible on a console for the first time. However, you guys are missing the question. Would haters still label the pad as a gimmic? 

The move can do RTS but no one is talking about that. To play Starcraft the way its meant to be played you need a mouse and keyboard. Plain and simple.

And shooters were also meant for mouse and keyboard. That didn't stop shooters from going to consoles. Yes you can use move for RTS games. You can also use a wii mote and duel analogs. None of them are a better option than the pad.
